Anti-Blight Initiative: Phase 2
Stop Trashing Bridgeport!
It’s the Law
From June 2005 to January 2006:
607 Anti-Blight warnings issued
242 Properties cited (fines)
125 Properties corrected
Since implementing its new Anti-Blight ordinance in June 2005, Bridgeport has issued more than 600 Anti-blight warnings throughout the City. As part of the Mayor's Initiatives to Create a Clean and Safe City through Anti-Blight Efforts, the Neighborhood Revitalization Program staff has investigated complaints and issued warnings to property owners who face $100 per day fines for allowing bulk items to accumulate on their premises.
Prohibited items include:
Abandoned cars & trucks
Appliances
Building falling down
Construction debris
Garbage
Hazardous materials, including paint
Mattresses & furniture
Tires
The Anti-Blight ordinance applies to occupied homes and businesses, as well as vacant parcels. Anyone can report blight by completing a Blight Report form or by calling 576-7765. Within XX days of receiving a blight complaint, the City investigates and issues an Anti-Blight Warning to the property owner. The property owner then has XX days to correct the problem.
If the problem is not corrected, the City can then issue a citation (fine of up to $100 per day). The Property owner may then request a hearing to appeal the fine by completing a Hearing Form, which is sent to the Neighborhood Revitalization office.
To report Blight (you do not have to give your name) call (203) 576-7765.
