As part of the Mayor's Initiatives to Create a Healthy Housing Market the Department runs programs that address homelessness, eliminate blight, assist first-time home buyers, address housing for People with AIDS, and rehabilitate houses and apartment buildings.

Whether you are a local resident, a renter, a homeowner, a landlord or a developer, we encourage you to pick a program and participate!

Bridgeport Rebuilders helps first-time home buyers and 2-4 unit buyers who will occupy one of the units obtain money for construction from the Connecticut Housing Investment Fund.  For more information, please call Cynthia Russell at 860-586-2028.

East End Brownfields will use $600,000 from the Environmental Protection Agency to remove hazardous chemical waste from the former Mount Trashmore, Chrome Engineering, and Paceli sites.  Once the sites are cleaned, the properties can be redeveloped to benefit the East End neighborhood.  For further information, please contact Richard McHugh, Senior Economic Development Associate at 203-576-7221 (McHugr0@ci.bridgeport.ct.us).

Habitat Housing, a national organization with a local chapter, plans to build 8 affordable homes in Bridgeport in 2005 and 16 in 2006.  As part of the program, eligible participants assist in the building of their own homes.  For more information, please contact Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County (HFHCFC) at 203-333-2642.

Hollow Neighborhood Revitalization Zone Housing Strategies is a community-designed program by Hollow residents to  1) address blighted or vacant properties, 2) improve the relationship between residents and police in order to reduce crime, and 3) empower residents to motivate its youth, make positive changes and create pride in the Hollow.  Money is used to traget blighted properties for demolion or rehabilitation.  For more information, please call Tom Coble, Director of Neighborhood Revitalization at 203-576-3931 (CobleT0@ci.bridgeport.ct.us).
