Thank you to all Bridgeport residents who have participated in the Bridgeport Arbor Day 2008 Citizen Tree Planting Campaign. Winners will be notified by mail. All trees will be planted fall 2008. Final Deadline for application submissions is Monday, October 6th, 2008.

If you have any questions regarding this program, or if you would like to let us know about how trees would benefit your neighborhood, please e-mail bridgeportctarborday2008@gmail.com with your contact information."

This program was made possible by the America the Beautiful grant awarded to the Department of Public Facilities by the State of Connecticut, Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Forestry. Up to 35 trees will be available for planting, limited to one (1) per property accepted.  Applications will be pre-screened and selected by a random lottery pick. Selection process will be conducted based on the meeting of requirements and the fulfillment of eligible criteria, including but not limited to the following: site visit to determine safety hazards and ability for City to physically plant the tree, suitability of land for tree growth, ownership approval to plant on land. All applicants will be fairly and equally reviewed on the same set of criteria. On Arbor Day, April 25th, 2008, the City of Bridgeport Parks and Recreation Department will kick off the planting, and continue on a schedule throughout the Park City.

As part of the Bridgeport Arbor Day 2008 Citizen Tree Planting Campaign the City of Bridgeport, Parks and Recreation Department hosted a free “Young Tree Planting Workshop” provided by the CT DEP Division of Forestry at the Beardsley Zoo Hanson Exploration Station, 1875 Noble Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06610 on the morning of Earth Day, Tuesday, April 22, 2008 from 9-11am. Workshop topics included the variety of benefits to preparation and other important things to know when ensuring a healthy start to the life of the tree.”
