Blackham Pool is open specifically for SENIOR SWIMMING on Monday & Friday nights from 6-7:30 PM.From 7:30-8:45 PM any Bridgeport family with children over 5 years old can enjoy the warm waters of Blackham or J.F.K. Pool. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays the pools are open from 6-8:45 PM. JFK Pool is open to the public every night from 6-8:45 PM. Registration is required, but swimming is free of charge to all City Residents.
Recreation runs an annual five week summer camp program at Seaside Park. Registration begins in the late May, and camp begins in early July and ends early in August. Photos of the previous summer camp are here. Seaside Park Day Camp provides supervised fun for Bridgeport youth entering grades 1-8.Hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM-3 PM.
Daily Activities include arts and craft projects, quiet and active games, athletic activities, and swimming. Campers also go on a variety of field trips including movie trips, roller skating, zoos, and museum visits. The cost of the program (usually about $70) includes breakfast, lunch, a snack and day camp t-shirts.
In addition, Glenwood Tennis Camp, a five-week camp that focuses on tennis instruction, is offered. This camp, for children ages 6 and up, teaches the basics and fundamentals of tennis. Hours are from 9 AM- Noon for five weeks. The dates usually correspond to Seaside Day Camp, and registration begins at the same time. Camp Registration fee (usually about $70) includes day camp T-shirts.
Night Recreation Programs in schools around the city provide free supervised athletic and art opportunities for children in the City of Bridgeport. This program runs from October through late April of 2007. The schedule corresponds with the school schedule, so their holidays are our holidays. These programs are offered free of charge to children in the City. Registration forms must be filled out for participation. Activities include a variety of sports, arts & crafts, hip-hop dancing, homework time, basketball, soccer (at Blackham School gym, Monday through Friday, no Wednesdays from 7:15-8:45 PM), and swimming.
Programs for Seniors
Blackham Pool is open specifically for SENIOR SWIMMING on Monday & Friday nights from 6-7:30 PM. In addition to SENIOR SWIMMING, we currently offer country line dancing on Wednesday nights at Blackham. Past excursion for seniors have included a trip to Radio City Music Hall to see the Rockettes, Nunsensations! At the Bridgeport Cabaret Theatre, and excursion to the Casino and Port Jefferson, Long Island.
