Identifying toxic sources of lead – The Lead Poisoning Prevention Program conducts lead inspections, in homes of children under the age of six who are at risk of being lead poisoned.Inspections can also be conducted upon phone-in requests from any tenant or property owner.Lead inspections are required, in accordance to City ordinance upon application for a CAO, and on Section 8 units, and other HUD associated properties prior to certification and or renovations.The Lead Poisoning Prevention Program also conducts lead inspections at daycare centers and other places frequented by children as mandation dictates.
Code Enforcement – Assure the remediation or abatement of toxic sources of lead in the environment.
Identify children with elevated blood lead levels – Program Personnel conduct capillary blood lead screenings to detect elevated lead levels.Screening clinics are conducted at daycares, pre-kindergarten classrooms, and in the individual homes of children upon request.
Promote lead safety awareness – Public Educational/awareness sessions to public agencies or other interest groups upon request.Sessions include lead safe work practice demonstrations, interpretations and explanations of codes and tips on how to comply, lead safe housekeeping and how to prevent and reduce elevated blood lead levels.
