Urban Land Institute Report on Bridgeport, Connecticut
The City of Bridgeport invited a panel of experts from the Urban Land Institute to visit Bridgeport in January 2005. The City of Bridgeport and the Bridgeport Regional Business Council sponsored the panel. Click here to read the press release announcing ULI panel's visit.
The ULI panel was charged with advising the City of the potential of its developable land portfolio, along with a prioritization of proposed projects. Beyond the site-specific questions, the panel was asked to evaluate the City's economic development administration, permit approval process, and quality-of-life issues to uncover the potential roadblocks to development interest in Bridgeport.
The panel members directly interviewed more then 255 individuals from the Bridgeport community and beyond. Additionally, they interacted with hundreds more during their five-day visit to Bridgeport. Following their meetings, the panelists developed a series of recommendations, which are described in their report on Bridgeport.

Since April 2005, a team of over 75 community volunteers has been meeting regularly to digest the ULI report and to plan the next steps for implementation. These 75 volunteers - residents, business owners, clergy, and community representatives - were divided into three subcommittees and were tasked with reviewing ULI's recommendations and developing draft action plans that would be the focus of a Bridgeport Community Summit.
THE BRIDGEPORT COMMUNITY SUMMIT - OCTOBER 15, 2005
One of the recommendations from ULI proposed that the City of Bridgeport hold a community summit as a way "to begin the process of consensus building on what Bridgeport wants to become." The Bridgeport Community Summit, held on Saturday, October 15, 2005, engaged residents, students, business owners, community and neighborhood groups, elected officials, and clergy in a citywide conversation about the revitalization and renewal of Bridgeport. More than 700 individuals who have a stake in Bridgeport's continued success participated in this half day program.
