Barnum Museum The Barnum Museum is the world's only museum dedicated to the life and times of ET. Barnum and Bridgeport's industrial heritage. Barnum Festival The unique P.T. Barnum Festival takes over the city each spring into the summer. Commemorating the circus entrepreneur, the events focus on many of his imaginative concepts such as the Jenny Lind Concert, Champions on Parade, a Children's Wing Ding Parade and the Great Barnum Street Parade. The Beardsley Zoo Connecticut's only accredited zoo is nestled in a 36-acre park-like setting devoted to the wildlife of North and South America. Captain's Cove You don't have to be a seasoned sailor to find something to enjoy at Captain's Cove Seaport, one of Connecticut's premier tourist attractions. Discovery Museum The Discovery Museum is Connecticut's Museum of adventures in art and science. There are over 100 hands on exhibits that are fun for children of all ages. Art programs include preschool classes, special workshops, and multi week classes. and the Museum's contemporary art galleries feature works in all media by artists from throughout New England as well as nationally and internationally known artists. City Lights Gallery This gallery has succeeded in its two major goals. create a professional, inviting space for viewing art for purchase, and an event space appealing for its gallery setting. Greater Bridgeport Symphony The Greater Bridgeport Symphony offers a five concert series conducted by internationally acclaimed Music Director Gustav Meier. Audiences can expect orchestral performances of high artistic quality, rich and varied programs and an array of world-renowned performers. The Greater Bridgeport Symphony process actually began in the 1930s, during the Great Depression when music pulsated from a State Street building next to City Hall, where Frank Foti conducted the Works Progress Administration (WPA) Symphony Orchestra, formed for unemployed musicians who previously played at local theatres. Housatonic Museum of Art The Housatonic Museum of Art features a collection of almost 4,000 works of art. Although the focus of the collection is of 20th century Modern and Contemporary work there are also approximately 400 works in the ethnographic collection including excellent examples of African, Asian, and Mayan cultures. There are 4to 6 changing exhibitions per year featuring local, regional, and national artists as well as shows culled from the permanent collection. Klein Memorial Auditorium The 1,400 seat theatre, built in 1940, reopened in 2002 after extensive restorations. The Klein has been the home of the Greater Bridgeport Symphony Orchestra for 60 years and is currently presenting a wide range of shows, from CATS and Saturday Night Fever to Bob Newhart and Sinbad. The auditorium was designed by architect Leonard Asheim and is an Art Deco design building with bronze doors and marble halls. American Hockey League affiliate of the New Yorl Islanders began their inaugural season this past October at the new state of the art ARENA .
